Resnet vs. Virgin - Winner is Resnet!

My Resnet connection shared by a standard Virgin issue Netgear DG834GT works wonderfully well. My skype experience has been improved considerably over the virgin service I was used to.

Xbox Live on the Xbox 360 also works excellently, even with two Xboxes in the house (this will depend on the router too of course).

Overall, Resnet is a massive improvement over Virgin, and even the limits are manageable due to the gadgets making usage very clear, along with the facility to buy some extra GBs.

Thank you for the great service.

    Hi Dan,

    Thanks!

Most residents in university accommodation don't have the choice to use Virgin or BT for broadband - it's ResNet or a 3G dongle. Great to know that in the lucky case where you can choose you went for ResNet!

Don't know what you were paying with Virgin, but I guess ResNet is cheaper too?

It's hard to work out what component of Virgin's charge is for the internet connection as you get phone and TV bundled and prices appear to be negotiable depending on how convincing your threats to leave them are. Mine used to cost about £40 per month. Resnet is clearly nowhere near that price. For me the only extra hassle was getting the connection to where I wanted it (from the bedroom to the living room). I achieved this by using a pair of 'homeplugs'.

These homeplugs introduce a little noise to one of my hifi amps, but apart from that they are 'invisible'.
