If you're in a hall covered by ResNet Wireless, it's probably easiest to use that. See https://manage.resnet.bristol.ac.uk/w... for more information.
If your hall doesn't have ResNet Wireless, then you'll need to use a "broadband router" to share your connection between multiple devices. There are hundreds of models available, not all of them are suitable for use on ResNet. It can be really quite confusing trying to pick one out!
If you're buying it from a shop such as PC World or Maplin, ask for a router which is suitable for use on "Virgin Media Cable Broadband."
If you're buying online, look for phrases such as "cable broadband router" or "ethernet router". Avoid devices which say "ADSL" or which don't mention the word "router" at all - as they're unlikely to work.
If you've got a router which works on ResNet, or know someone who has - it'd be great if you could mention the make and model number on this thread so that we can build a list of what works!
Connecting more than one device to ResNet: which routers work on ResNet?

I know that my Hall doesn't have ResNet-Wireless, only the ResNet wired connection, and that I can only connect one computer to the ResNet socket. ...but with a home router I can share the connection between my PC, laptop & games console. Do you know which router will work?

I recently bought this wireless router to connect my PS3. It's fantastic value for money and I've had no problems whatsoever:

I am using a Belkin G Router - http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/p...
Works fine, although Ubuntu seems to have trouble with the ipv6 as it tries to connect to it first, you have to disable ipv6 checking in Firefox. -

Just a quick update on the subject of Belkin routers.
If you've got a Belkin router,we recommend turning off IPV6 on all of your client devices (laptops, phones etc).
In some circumstances having IPV6 turned on can cause unreliable connection behaviour on ResNet, sometimes leading to your connection not working for up to a day. -

Hi I'm using a TP link wireless router
TL- WR741ND model - i'm currently setting it up via method number two, which is configuring the device via web based quick setup wizard. All was going well except when prompting me to put static IP etc. when I pressed next this error message came up:
"Error code: 5008
WAN IP address and LAN IP address cannot be in a same subnet. Please input another IP address."
Any Ideas to resolve this? -
